On My Mind Lately

January 14, 2014 by Carleton English in Uncategorized

It's not that I haven't been thinking this last year. It's just that I've been thinking in other places and with other people...

  1. Websites: In the last year I've built five - ranging from blogs, businesses, and user forums - and am inspired to do more. I learned (and continue to learn) by diving in. I held back tears while on the phone with Bluehost after my then non-existent PHP skills crashed a site. I learned that throttling is the downside of a site's content suddenly going viral. I learned that most things are fixable but it's still smart to keep backups. And most important, I learned that I still have a lot more learn.
  2. Magazines: I love nothing more than spending a quiet weekend afternoon pass by while sipping coffee and thumbing through my glossies. Though, at this point, I would love nothing more than to have a quiet weekend afternoon. I'm sure I'll eventually get to my September Vogue...
  3. Bitcoins: I get it...but still...
  4. Carbs: Pierogies, arepas, pasta, bagels. I want them all.
  5. Dot-connecting: In technology, in finance, in the doodles on the margins of my notes. I'm fascinated how things work and and are interconnected and have finally gotten around to reading one of my favorite quasi-economist's books on how our silly minds parse information.
  6. Make-up: At 30 it may finally be time to embrace a daily makeup routine. I've come to love wearing a red lip and the extra jolt of femininity I feel with a few coats of mascara. Now to permit myself an extra five minutes in the morning for makeup and not AM texting.
  7. Sleep: Yearning for the feeling of waking up fully rested.
  8. Health: Green smoothies have become a near daily staple and I love them. Now to incorporate exercise: dance, yoga, tennis, whatever.
  9. New York: More on that later...
  10. More:  to learn, to do, to earn, to read, to think, and to love.
